From Miss to Mrs.
I’m still a newbie at being a Mrs., but I’m learning new things everyday. Marrying George has truly been my greatest joy, but with each life change comes life lessons. Here are a few things I’ve learned in my first few days as a wife.
5 Lessons Learned in my First Days of Marriage
1. Post Wedding To-Do’s are Real: Wedding planning keeps you busy with places to be and things to do. Your schedule is jam packed with bridal showers, bachelorette parties, the wedding day, and your honeymoon. After the honeymoon, you think you are done with the wedding to do’s and you get to kick back and enjoy being a newlywed. Oh no……it does not work that way. The post wedding season comes with it’s own agenda. You have the duties of writing thank you notes for wedding gifts, legally changing your last name, moving in together, decorating, and adjusting to your new normal. It’s fun but its work.
2. Babies: As soon as I said “I Do”, I felt like the masses were inquiring about when we were planning on having babies. Uh….we just got married. Give us some time (eye roll). For some reason, as soon as you walk down the aisle, people expect babies. I’ve committed to enjoying my husband for a moment before creating the mini me’s.
3. Prayer: As I adjust to this new role as a wife, he is adjusting to his new role as a husband. I’ve learned to pray and ask God to equip him with the tools that he needs to be his best. I’ve implemented a prayer just for him into my daily routine.
4. Date Nights: Just because you are married, does not mean you stop dating. Dating keeps it fun and fresh. We still have fun and I’m still in love like we just met. George and I have made a point in the newness of our marriage to plan fun activities such as taco nights, double dates, and designated times in the week that we have quality time that’s just for us.
5. Makes Cents: My husband is a finance guru, I am not. I help people spend money through shopping. George helps people save money through financial planning. I have learned to appreciate our individual strengths and respect each other’s differences.
