Why travel during a pandemic?
Like many of you, I haven’t traveled internationally in over a year. My last flight domestically was actually 1 year ago for my February bday in 2020, so I was ready to get away, feel the sun and sand and celebrate Valentines and my birthday month.
How was the flight with the new COVID policies?
We flew American and the airport was popping & packed maybe since it was valentines week, but everyone was masked up. We flew First class and I’m so happy that we did since the plane was full, so this allowed me to only sit by George & no strangers since first class is 2 seat sections vs. 3 seat in coach. Sanitizer wipes were on deck, and overall I still felt safe. We took a direct flight to Cancun that was only a 3 hour flight, and the time zone was the same as Charlotte in EST.
Covid Testing?
We got a covid test the day before we traveled to make sure we traveled negative, and we had to get a test while in Mexico in order to return within 3 days of our return flight. The biggest risk of the trip was the thought of getting a positive test & being stuck in Mexico having to quarantine for 10 days, but we were extra careful on our trip, and the resort provided us with a free test, so we got a negative test in Mexico and then got another one when we flew back that was not required, but just to be careful.
Accommodations
Secrets Akumal Riviera Maya is an adult only all inclusive resort thats about 1.5 hours away from the airport, and the accommodations were scenic and gorgeous, and the staff was great. Food was like a 6 out of 10, but the local food off resort is fantastic. Due to covid, the report was only at 30% occupied and it was very safe and clean. Upon arrivals, they sanitized our luggage, shoes, hands, and everything.
