Quarantine has us all a little stir crazy. I’ve never been in my house this much in my life. For many of us, we’ve been working from home, cooking at home, working out at home, having date nights at home, and life has just been completely out of our control. When I feel out of control, and stressed, I usually like to travel, but this year, my travel plans have all been cancelled, so lately my favorite way to reset is to connect with mother nature.
Here are three simple ways to connect with mother nature:
-
Add plants to your home by bringing nature indoors: Before quarantine, we had two plants in our home that were dying. Now during quarantine, we have 9 plants that are thriving. We studied up on how to take care of them, how to re-pot them, and how to feed them and give them adequate light, and now we are much better plant parents. We have a snake plant (great starter plant because they are hard to kill), monstera plant, fiddle leaf fig, elephant plant, money tree, aloe plant, and a majestic palm. Each plant has a cozy home in a cute planter that matches our decor aesthetic, and they are bringing so much life into our home. Studies show that plants not only make your house look better, but they also make you feel better. Plants detoxify your air, boost your mood, produce oxygen, and reduce stress.
-
Get active outdoors: After being stuck inside for months, you’ll be surprised at how refreshed you feel getting moving and getting outside. I’ve been taking walks and jogs when I can (when its not 100 degrees). I tried yoga outdoors which was very relaxing. George purchased a bike, and he has been taking neighborhood rides to stay active.
-
Unplug from Technology: I’ve really enjoyed sitting outside on my patio and leaving my phone inside which allows me to focus on gazing up at the sky, taking deep breaths, journaling, and sometimes drinking a glass of wine. Taking a break from technology, and stopping to get some fresh air reminds me to be mindful and enjoy whats right in front of me instead of being stuck on my phone. During these times, I realize how consumed I can be with my phone, my laptop, social media, emails, etc.
