Each year, January is a month of mixed emotions. On one hand, it’s filled with the optimism of a new year and new start. On the other hand, it brings on moments of reflection and grief as I reflect back on losing my dad Bishop Mack Timberlake during the month of January. Although so many years have passed, it’s still alot to process at times, but when I get down, I’m comforted by these two things.
My auntie is a gifted seamstress, and she took fabric from one of my dads favorite outfits and made it into a pillow for me. Its one of my most cherished gifts that provides me with a lasting symbol of remembrance of my father.
My husband George never got to personally meet my dad, but on our wedding day, he presented me with a framed letter to my dad giving his commitment to take care of me in his absence.
These two gifts give me so much comfort and reminds me that sometimes the small, thoughtful things can have the most lasting impact.
