Why Keeping a Journal is Important for Creatives
Like most creatives, I have a very active mind and my thoughts can generate pretty amazing ideas. As a creator, I’m constantly thinking of new content , social media posts, planning events, developing webinars, creating IGTV concepts, and brainstorming new business strategies. I’m always thinking of a plan for the future which sometimes makes it hard to be in the moment and enjoy the present.
What I’m learning about myself is that with my active mind, if left unchecked, it can generate thoughts of anxiousness and restlessness. It can also keep me so future focused that I miss the opportunity to be grateful for the now. I learned that nothing about my mindset was going to change until my habits changed, so I started to journal to help with processing all of my thoughts and keep my mind positive and at peace. If you are a creative, I think it’s a must to journal and get those thoughts out and braindump. Believe it or not, journaling allows you to free your mind so that you can be more creative and think clearly. It allows you to process your dreams, fears, thoughts and feelings in a healthy way.
The diary that I journal in is called The 6 Minute Diary. I love this diary because it makes it easy to journal with guided writing prompts such as daily affirmations, gratitude journaling questions, weekly challenges and habit trackers. The journal is designed to encourage you to spend 3 minutes journaling in the morning, and 3 minutes journaling before bed. Its’s very practical. Who can’t commit to 6 minutes a day for self care? I know we spend more than 6 minute a day on Instagram, so we owe it to ourselves and our minds.
