As a blogger, I feel that there is a pressure to be “on” and “have my face beat” at all times, but thats just not real life! On some days, I do have the opportunity to get glammed up by an MUA for a project or photoshoot, but on most days, I do my own makeup, or better yet, don’t wear makeup at all. It has taken me some time to get comfortable enough in my own skin to walk out of the house with no makeup. It honestly has taken me years to not be self conscious and ashamed of how I look with no make-up. My skincare journey has been far from easy. My skin type is oily and acne prone. I suffered from cystic acne in my teenage years all the way up to my late 20’s, which made me very self conscious about how I looked. I started seeing a dermatologist as early as age 14 because over the counter acne products were just not working. Even after I started to see a dermatologist and use clinical grade skincare, it took years of trial and error until in my 20’s when i tried accutane for my acne to clear up. After completing my accutane treatment, I was left my with horrible post acne scarring which left me very ashamed of my skin.
Now at age 30, I feel like I’m finally in a good place with my skin. I will be the first to say that it is not perfect, but it has come a long way due to the skincare routine that I’ve adopted. I posted a picture on my Instagram today of me wearing no makeup, and I got so many compliments on my skin. I was inspired by the love that I received from that post which inspired me to write this blog. Please see the text and images below for the details and products links to my skincare routine.
Step 1: Makeup Removal: I use Simple cleansing facial wipes to remove any traces of face or waterproof eye makeup before cleansing. I love these wipes and they are affordable under $6. They are a great sensitive skin option because they have no perfumes or dyes to irritate your skin.
Step 2: Cleanser: I use Origins Checks and Balances cleanser day and night which is great for removing the oil and dirt from my skin without leaving it dry. 1-2 days a week, if my skin is looking dull, I will alternate my cleanser with Derma.E Purifying Scrub.
Step 3: Daytime Moisturizer: I use Origins Ginzing Gel moisturizer. This moisturizer is hydrating non greasy, lightweight and perfect for moisturizing without an oily finish.
Step 4: Night Moisturizer: I use Primally Pure’s Beauty Cream. This product is a game changer. I share my honest review about the brand here, but I have truly noticed my skin improve after using this product for only a few weeks. This moisturizer can be used day or night, but i choose to use it at night since it has a thicker finish.
Optional Step: Once a week, I use a Origins Out of Trouble Mask which helps clear my pores and prevent future breakouts.
