I recently got my nose pierced for the first time, and it’s one of those small decisions that ended up feeling a lot bigger in my head than it actually was.
Before I did it, I took my time doing research. I looked for piercing studios with strong reviews, a focus on cleanliness, proper sanitation practices, and a reputation for making first-time piercings feel comfortable. Eventually, I found a studio in Fort Worth, Texas that checked all the boxes and felt like a safe, professional place to take that step.
And even with all that preparation, I still found myself going back and forth on the decision.
Not because I didn’t want it…but because I was overthinking it.
At some point, I made the decision to stop overanalyzing and simply allow myself to say yes to something I was genuinely interested in.
Things I Considered Before Getting My Nose Pierced
If you’re thinking about getting a nose piercing for the first time, here are a few things I’d personally recommend considering:
1. Choose a reputable, clean studio
This was my biggest priority. Look for places that are transparent about their sterilization process, use proper equipment, and have consistent positive reviews from real clients.
2. Ask questions before committing
A good piercer will walk you through everything…pain level (mine was a pain level of 4.5 out of 10), healing time, aftercare, jewelry options, and what to expect during the appointment.
3. Understand the aftercare commitment
A nose piercing isn’t just the moment you get it done…it’s weeks of consistent cleaning and care. Make sure you’re ready for that routine.
4. Be honest about your lifestyle
Think about your work, workouts, skincare routine, and how a healing piercing might fit into that. It doesn’t have to be perfect timing, but awareness helps.
5. Don’t rush yourself…but don’t overthink it either
This was the biggest shift for me. Research is helpful, but at some point, too much thinking can start to take the joy out of the decision.
The Real Lesson: Trust Yourself a Little More
What stood out most about this experience wasn’t the piercing itself, it was the reminder that not every decision needs to be deeply analyzed to be valid.
Sometimes you can simply want something, explore it responsibly, and then allow yourself to say yes.
We often wait for the “perfect” certainty before we act, but life becomes a lot lighter when we start trusting our own preferences a little more.
That’s really what this was for me: a small moment of choosing myself without overcomplicating it.
And honestly? I love it.
